Pocket beaches can vanish in a single winter. Lighthouse relocations are real (Cape Hatteras, 1999). Keepers historically kept logs of weather, wrecks, and visitors. Fog bells and horns were timed, not continuous. Use the language of charts: sounding, bearing, range — not metaphor first.
